"The organizer of the Chanel fashion shows accused the Russian event industry of lack of creativity"
Dmitry Yakovlevsky, the founder of the international design laboratory Twenty Five, told a special correspondent of the National News Service on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) that modern event organizers in Russia hardly use creativity to create projects, but rather do them "for show."
"Due to the fact that the flow of information has become larger and faster due to the development of the Internet and artificial intelligence, the creativity, concept, and message are somewhat dying out. Due to the short deadlines and delayed payments caused by the global economy, it is now very noticeable that people are doing everything "for the sake of it" in order to complete the project. They are investing very little thought and patience. 95% of events are "haphazard." Some people are simply fulfilling the requirements of the winning tender. But there's no creative thought behind all the projects. Even if we consider festivals or events by new brands. Even the contracting companies don't post these projects on their websites. They're ashamed," he explained. According to him, any project requires a message.
"We live only once, and the projects we do, at least one in a while, should be done with a message, a mission. Otherwise, life will be empty. I know many people who used to work in events, but then left or changed their field of work. Creativity itself is disappearing. Many people use AI. Everything is devalued. And when you come to events, it's very noticeable. The uniqueness of events that you want to share online, not just to get noticed, but because they are surprising, is now disappearing," he concluded.
Dmitry Yakovlevsky is the only organizer of large-scale projects and shows for global luxury brands in Russia, including Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Philipp Plein, and Cartier. He has also organized concerts by Adele and Rihanna. In addition, Yakovlevsky is a member of the organizing committee for the international music competition "Intervision 2025."
